Chief Executive John Lee said transport links between Hong Kong and Fujian would be boosted through more flights and high-speed rail services, as the two governments reached an agreement to expand cultural and tourism exchanges.
Lee is currently leading a delegation on a three-day visit to Fujian.
In a social media post, Lee said the delegation visited an historic and cultural district in Fuzhou on Monday to learn about heritage conservation and promotion works there.
He said they held discussions with local officials, sharing experiences between the two regions regarding preservation, revitalisation and the promotion of intangible cultural heritage.
And in his visit to Nanping on Tuesday, Lee met with Fujian vice governor Zhao Zenglian and Nanping municipal committee party secretary Yuan Chaohong to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
The chief executive also met with some Hong Kong students taking part in an internship programme at a university in Nanping to learn about their experiences.
Forty-eight young people from Hong Kong have participated in the project since its launch in 2018.
Lee also visited a museum to learn about the history, heritage, cultural development and the culture-and-tourism integration of Wuyi rock tea.
And he attended a dinner event organised by the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Fujian.
Noting that more than 70 Fujian enterprises are currently listed in Hong Kong, the CE encouraged SAR entrepreneurs in Fujian to continue building bridges for people-to-people exchanges, as well as for economic and trade co-operation between the two places.
The chief executive will visit Ningde on Wednesday before returning to Hong Kong.
