Fear-mongering, confrontation and vicious competition will only disrupt the process of global AI governance, which serves no one's interest, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.

Guo Jiakun made the remarks amid calls to slow the technology's development.

On Saturday, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called on AI companies to slow the rate at which they advance model capabilities amid mounting fears of misuse. Both Elon Musk, who runs xAI, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said they agree with Amodei.

"The development of AI bears on the well-being of all humanity. All parties should jointly promote the open and inclusive development of AI for good and for all," Guo told a regular press briefing.

President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump are expected to discuss topics including AI governance in a meeting planned for late September. (Xinhua and agencies)
