The National Security Law will be taught in schools from primary three, under a shake-up of the education curriculum. The Education Bureau also says it is splitting the General Studies subject in primary schools into humanities and science sections. Vanessa Cheng reports:

Chief Secretary Eric Chan says future district councils here should focus on collecting resident's opinions and leave the implementation of services to government care teams. A group of lawmakers say authorities need to ramp up efforts to redevelop old districts, citing public safety concerns. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department is calling on people to refrain from lighting a fire at country parks, saying the move is not only illegal but can also hurt the environment and endanger the safety of others. It made the comment after environmental group The Green Earth uploaded a video showing pyrotechnics being used during a wedding photoshoot at Tai Mo Shan. Priscilla Ng reports:

The government says at least half a dozen pigs at a farm in Lau Fau Shan tested positive for the African Swine Fever virus. Authorities announced the culling of the farm's 1,900 pigs but said there was no food safety risk to humans. Jacqueline Guico reports:

The Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health (COSH) is turning its attention to elderly smokers, saying 50 percent after over the age of 50. Henry Tong, chairman of the council, says helping elderly smokers kick the habit will ease pressure on the public health system and protect others from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke. COSH has been holding the Elderly Smoking Cessation Promotion Project every year since 2012. He told Ben Tse that elderly smokers had many misconceptions about quitting:

This year's Operation Santa Claus charity drive is raising money for 16 charities, including the Saint Barnabas’ Society and Home. Founded in 1987, the group has been providing a range of services to less well-off members of the community, from free meals for the elderly to after-school tutorial classes for grassroots children. Its latest project helps assess fall injury risks among disadvantaged elderly. Those found vulnerable are given therapist-guided exercise sessions, medication, as well as adapted shoes. Dutch political leaders are preparing for negotiations to form a coalition government after the far-right Freedom Party (PVV) pulled off a surprise election victory. No party won a majority but the Freedom Party's controversial anti-immigration leader, Geert Wilders, may now lead negotiations. But the 60-year-old faces a daunting task of trying to form a working coalition, courting rivals that categorically ruled out serving in a PVV-led government before the vote.
