The DAB party has emerged as the biggest winner in the district council polls, securing more than 40 percent of the 264 seats up for grabs. The party fielded 121 candidates and won 109 seats with a success rate of more than 90 percent. Vanessa Cheng reports:

Political commentator Sonny Lo says voter turnout for the elections fell within analysts' forecasts of between 25 and 30 percent. Professor Lo, who is also the acting community college principal at HKU SPACE, said the fact that almost 1.2 million people voted showed the government had to be responsive to people's needs. He also told Kelly Yu that it was hardly surprising that the DAB party came out on top:

The DAB party says it will work closely with other parties after emerging on top in the district polls. Holden Chow, a vice chairman with the party, says it will open more offices across the SAR, as well as deploy more people and resources to provide better services in neighbourhoods. He also told Samantha Butler that although the glitch may have discouraged some voters, the success of the polls was not solely determined by the turnout rate:

New People's Party vice-chairman Lai Tung-kwok says he is satisfied with the party's performance in the elections. In total, the party fielded 29 candidates, 15 of whom won seats. But only five of the 17 candidates fielded in the geographical constituencies won. Lai said a system malfunction that briefly halted voting on election night was partly to blame.
