The government has appointed 179 district councillors following Sunday's District Council elections. The government says a majority of them are young to middle-aged and from all walks of life, with the youngest at 23-years-old. Damon Pang reports:

A newly-appointed district councillor has hailed the overhaul of the elections, which saw a drop in the number of directly-elected seats. Rizwan Ullah, a secondary school vice principal and a member of the Equal Opportunities Commission, represents the Kowloon City Council. He says the revamped system allows for the appointment of local professionals or ethnic minorities such as himself, who may lack the time and resources to win the public's vote. He told Ben Tse what he hoped to achieve within his community:

A global employment agency says almost half of the local companies it surveyed plan to hire new staff in the first quarter of next year. ManpowerGroup interviewed just over 40,000 employers in 41 countries and regions around the world, including 525 in Hong Kong. Lancy Chui, the group's senior vice-president, says the communication-services sector is the one that is most in need of staff. Property firm JLL says the price of small-and-medium sized homes will fall by another 10 percent next year to levels seen back in 2016. As Violet Wong reports, that will worsen the city's negative equity problem:

This year, Operation Santa Claus is raising money for 16 charities, one of which is the “Children Complimentary Chiropractic Care Program" - organised by Children Chiropractic Foundation. The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's emergency bill - reviving his plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda - has been approved by parliament, enabling it to proceed to the next stage of the legislative process. The bill opened up deep divisions in Britain's ruling Conservative Party but was passed with a majority of 44 in a knife-edge parliamentary vote. The bill was introduced only last week after a unanimous Supreme Court ruling in November that deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda was illegal under international law.
