The government says it will consider opening more border crossings around the clock. It has been meeting with the tourism and transport sectors after many visitors struggled to get back to the mainland once the New Year's Eve fireworks display ended after midnight on Sunday. Violet Wong reports:

She said it could sometimes be difficult to dig out information from officials and the dashboard could help speed up data collection. A hotpot restaurant and a mahjong lounge are just some of the highlights of China's first domestically-built cruise ship. It is over 320 metres in length and weighs more than 135,000 tonnes. The massive cruiseliner is now docked at South Korea's Jeju Island. It left Shanghai on Monday on its maiden voyage, which will take it to Japan. Natale Ching reports:

A rescue operation is continuing in freezing weather in central Japan, as aftershocks hamper efforts to look for survivors of Monday's earthquake. At least 50 people are now known to have died in the quake and hundreds of buildings have collapsed or burnt down, many of them in Wajima City. The tremor also triggered tsunami waves more than a metre high. Azam Khan spoke to RTHK's Tokyo correspondent, Julian Ryall, who said widespread damage to roads and infrastructure was making it difficult for rescuers to reach those trapped under rubble:

Hong Kong's stock market could surge to as high as 23,000 points by the middle of this year if there is a revival in the mainland's economy and the property market, according to Citibank. But the bank said high interest rates would continue to weigh on local property prices, with home prices here expected to drop more than 10 percent by the end of the year. Ka Liu, head of Investment Strategy and Portfolio Advisory at Citibank Hong Kong, also offered a preview of the global investment opportunities in 2024. He said while US stocks may be attractive, investors could also consider Indian and Japanese equities, as well as China's internet sector despite regulatory uncertainties. Mainland firm, BYD, has overtaken Elon Musk's Tesla as the top maker of all-electric vehicles. Sales figures for the fourth quarter show BYD selling almost 42,000 more than Tesla, with sales of just over 525,000. Robert Kemp reports:
