Football fans were left sorely disappointed on Sunday after Lionel Messi failed to play in the exhibition match between his Inter Miami team and a Hong Kong eleven. The government, which stumped up millions of dollars for the event, agrees that spectators deserved better. As Tom McAlinden reports, the organisers denied reports that it had known ahead of the match that both Messi and Luis Suarez would not play, saying that they had been deemed unfit to play by their team's medical department:
