The authorities say they have a better idea of what to include in contracts for "mega events" following Sunday's much-hyped friendly football match between the Hong Kong team and Inter-Miami. Fans booed the event after paying thousands of dollars to see football star Lionel Messi play, but he stayed on the bench due to an injury. A patients' rights activist says if the government wants to address waiting times at Accident & Emergency Departments during holiday periods, it should extend the hours of its General Out-patient Clinics. Alex Lam, chairman of Hong Kong Patients Voices, was commenting after authorities announced a new 10-day trial during the Lunar New Year break, to give refunds to people attending A&E. The idea is that once patients discover the long waiting time, they will instead opt for a refund and go to the private sector. But Mr Lam says during holiday periods, private clinics are closed and patients have no other choice. He spoke to Azam Khan:
Deposit protection limit raised by 60 percent Listen
The Deposit Protection Board has proposed raising the protection limit of deposits to HK$800,000 in the fourth quarter this year at the earliest. As Chloe Feng reports, the move would provide a better buffer for depositors and ensure the stability of banks:
Dietician warns against CNY over-indulgence Listen
A Hospital Authority dietician has called on people to pay more attention to what they eat during the upcoming Lunar New Year period, saying people tend to gain weight or come down with health complications after indulging in various traditional new year delights. Grace Lui, dietician in-charge at the North District Hospital, said people should enjoy their new year dishes and snacks in moderation, adding that those with high blood sugar, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, need to be especially mindful of what they eat.
