The government says it plans to transform an area in northwestern New Territories into an eco-tourism destination, similar to Singapore’s Sentosa. The development would feature outdoor adventure activities, a coastal conservation park and a waterfront performance venue. Anne Chan reports:

An engineer has suggested banning bamboo scaffolding entirely in light of the deadly collapse. Joseph Chi, who chairs the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers' safety specialist committee, says bamboo scaffolding is harder to assess during inspections compared to its metal equivalent. He told Elvis Yu that the construction industry had already started phasing out the use of bamboo scaffolding for large-scale projects:

A new tracking system is helping conservationists find the best habitats for Hong Kong's horseshoe crabs to thrive in. The Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong says the Mangrove and Tri-spine horseshoe crabs are two species facing extinction due to human activities. The foundation's community education manager Judy Wan told Hailey Yip that the new tracking system would give experts new insight into the crabs' movements and behaviour, setting a foundation for future conservation projects:

The Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden has called on the government to develop animal-friendly fencing after a young barking deer needed rescuing in Lai Chi Kok. The Fire Services Department said it took 10 firefighters about an hour to free the deer which was stuck in a fence after they arrived at Caldecott Road, near the Butterfly Valley Fresh Water Primary Service Reservoir on Wednesday morning. The deer was then sent to Kadoorie Farm for treatment. Bibi Wan, a conservation officer at the farm, spoke to Natale Ching:

Almost two weeks after the national elections in Pakistan produced no clear winner, two political parties - the Pakistan Muslim League and the Pakistan People's Party - have reached a formal agreement on a new coalition government. Shehbaz Sharif is likely to be prime minister for a second time. Supporters of Pakistan's former prime minister, Imran Khan, currently in prison, say the election was stolen, because they won the most seats, although not enough to get a majority.
