Lawmakers have called for a review of fire safety regulations, after five people died in a fire in Jordan on Wednesday. Preparations for this summer's Paris Olympics are in full swing. The Chef de Mission for the Hong Kong, China delegation to the Paris Olympics, Brian Stevenson, says the size of this year's team should be similar to that sent to the Tokyo Games. 46 athletes participated in 13 sports in Tokyo, capturing six medals, including one gold. A sports professor says Hong Kong has insufficient facilities for hosting certain events at next year's National Games. The SAR will host eight competitive events of the games in November next year, including track cycling, beach volleyball and rugby sevens. The city had previously expressed an interest in also hosting football and windsurfing events. Patrick Lau from the Baptist University's Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health said facilities here, including the weather, were determining factors in being able to host certain events. He also told Elvis Yu that co-hosting the National Games was far more significant for the city, compared to hosting the East Asian Games in 2009:

The Foreign Ministry in Beijing has expressed deep concern over the escalation in the conflict in the Middle East, after Iran launched its massive drone and missile attack on Israel. Anne Chan reports:

President Biden has warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US will not take part in a counter-offensive against Iran. Israeli officials said Netanyahu's war cabinet favoured retaliation in a meeting on Sunday, although the panel was divided over the timing and scale of any such response. RTHK's Washington correspondent, Barry Wood, told Samantha Butler it was unclear what the US could do to ensure no further escalation of tensions in the region:
