Lawmakers call for tighter rules on fire safety Listen
Lawmakers have called for a review of fire safety regulations, after five people died in a fire in Jordan on Wednesday. Speaking on a radio programme, some of the legislators said the deadly blaze showed an urgent need for tighter rules and more effective enforcement of regulations. Anne Chan reports:

New 'smart city' office to be set up mid 2024 Listen
The Financial Secretary, Paul Chan, says officials will set up a new office in the coming months to bring forward policies on digital economy and developing Hong Kong into a "smart city". The idea of setting up such an office was first put forward in last year's Policy Address. Damon Pang reports:
Paris Olympics will be the 'greenest' ever Listen
Preparations for this summer's Paris Olympics are in full swing. Marc Lamy, the deputy Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, says authorities are beefing up security and putting in place efficient transportation arrangements, among other measures. Hopes for continuous funding for HK athletes Listen
The Chef de Mission for the Hong Kong, China delegation to the Paris Olympics, Brian Stevenson, says the size of this year's team should be similar to that sent to the Tokyo Games. 46 athletes participated in 13 sports in Tokyo, capturing six medals, including one gold. Stevenson says he does not have any specific expectations this time around but hopes to see athletes perform their best. He spoke to Hailey Yip:
Holistic approach needed to hosting sport events Listen
A sports professor says Hong Kong has insufficient facilities for hosting certain events at next year's National Games. The SAR will host eight competitive events of the games in November next year, including track cycling, beach volleyball and rugby sevens. The city had previously expressed an interest in also hosting football and windsurfing events. Patrick Lau from the Baptist University's Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health said facilities here, including the weather, were determining factors in being able to host certain events. He also told Elvis Yu that co-hosting the National Games was far more significant for the city, compared to hosting the East Asian Games in 2009:
China calls for 'restraint' after Iran strikes Israel Listen
The Foreign Ministry in Beijing has expressed deep concern over the escalation in the conflict in the Middle East, after Iran launched its massive drone and missile attack on Israel. Anne Chan reports:
Biden urges Netanyahu not to retaliate Listen
President Biden has warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US will not take part in a counter-offensive against Iran. Israeli officials said Netanyahu's war cabinet favoured retaliation in a meeting on Sunday, although the panel was divided over the timing and scale of any such response. RTHK's Washington correspondent, Barry Wood, told Samantha Butler it was unclear what the US could do to ensure no further escalation of tensions in the region:
Sharks' feelings at the forefront of new musical Listen
This weekend is the premiere of an original Hong Kong musical theatre production, addressing the issue of marine sustainability. "Shark Symphony" is the third in a series of animal-inspired musicals produced by the City Chamber Orchestra, featuring a live orchestra, and singers, dancers, and acrobats.
