Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Beijing for a two-day state visit. The Kremlin says this is Putin’s first foreign trip since being sworn in as president and beginning his fifth term in office. Jacqueline Guico reports:
YouTube restricts videos relating to banned song Listen
Alphabet's YouTube says it will comply with a Hong Kong court order to curb access to videos related to a protest song. Last week, Hong Kong's appeal court granted the government's request for an injunction against "Glory to Hong Kong". The case has been closely watched for how it will affect tech firms and internet platform operators. Todd Harding reports:
HKers value job stability over advancement Listen
A new survey suggests a growing number of people are prioritising job stability over career advancement. The Recruitment agency Randstad says its survey of more than 750 Hongkongers found around 60 percent would be happy to stay in a job they liked, even if there was no room to progress or develop. Continuity expected in Singapore transfer of power Listen
A veteran businessman of both Hong Kong and Singapore for three decades says the two places remain both “complementors” and “competitors” as they navigate their way through an increasingly complex geopolitical environment. Dennis Chiu's comments come as the Lion City ushers in a new era, with finance minister Lawrence Wong taking over from Lee Hsien Loong as prime minister. Chiu, who chairs the Hong Kong Singapore Business Association, told Chloe Feng that he expected "continuity" in terms of policies:
Australian whistleblower 'got off lightly' Listen
A former Australian Army lawyer - who leaked classified documents to journalists about alleged war crimes by Australian forces in Afghanistan - has been sentenced to more than five years in prison. David McBride admitted stealing classified defence documents in 2014 and 2015. He gave the material to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation which in 2017 published a seven-part series called “The Afghan Files”, detailing alleged crimes, including the killing of unarmed Afghans by Australian soldiers. Press freedom advocates criticised the five-year sentence. But RTHK's Australia correspondent Luke Hunt told Annemarie Evans that McBride would have been treated more harshly overseas:
Firefighter and nurse crowned bun festival champions Listen
A firefighter and a nurse have been crowned Bun King and Queen in the final of Cheung Chau's "Bun Scrambling" competition. It rounded off a day of festivities attended by tens of thousands of people on the island.
