Thirty Hong Kong secondary school students will attend a young astronaut training camp on the mainland this month, to get a taste of the country's space programme. A dietitian says the rate of iron deficiency among the local population is similar to that seen in other developed countries. Danica Yau, chair of the Hong Kong Dietitians Association was commenting after the Department of Health said a study of over 2,000 people found nearly six percent suffered from low iron levels. She told Samantha Butler about the related health risks, and the dietary fixes to address it:

Medical researchers at the Chinese University have developed a chart to help identify what types of fish that children with allergies can consume. It means they will not have to skip eating fish altogether. The researchers studied around 250 children with fish allergies and found 40 percent were able to tolerate at least one type of fish. Labour exploitation has been in the spotlight in Italy recently, after an Indian fruit picker died in June when his arm was severed by machinery. In the latest case, police say alleged gang-masters from India brought fellow nationals to Italy on seasonal work permits, asking them to pay the equivalent of HK$140,000 each for the promise of a better future. Italian police freed 33 Indian farm workers from the northern province of Verona, and seized almost half a million euros from two alleged gangmasters.
