Siobhan Haughey makes it to 200m freestyle final Listen
Team Hong Kong, China are off to a golden start at the Olympic Games. Over the weekend, fencer Vivian Kong secured a dramatic gold in the women's epee competition. She pulled off an incredible comeback to silence a partisan home crowd that even included President Macron, who was there to cheer for her French opponent. There was much more action on the second day, with swimmer Siobhan Haughey and the mixed double table tennis team putting themselves in position to go for medals. CE starts Asean tour to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam Listen
The chief executive is on a six-day trip to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to further explore business opportunities there. John Lee also says he will seek their support for Hong Kong joining the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Anne Chan reports:
'HK needs free trade deals with Asean nations' Listen
An economist says Hong Kong should establish more free trade agreements with Asean countries to further enhance trade ties in the region. Alicia Garcia Herrero, chief economist for Asia Pacific at the investment bank Natixis, told Anne Chan that the chief executive's visit is expected to bolster Hong Kong's connections with these countries:
Smooth MTR services despite partial shutdown Listen

Meloni signs action plan with China on state visit Listen
The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has vowed to "relaunch" cooperation with China. She has signed a three-year action plan during her first official visit to Beijing since taking office. State media said the trip was aimed at "clarifying misunderstandings" after Italy withdrew from China's flagship Belt and Road infrastructure project. Todd Harding reports:
At least 15 die in landslide in Hunan province Listen
Continued heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Gaemi triggered a landslide that killed 15 people in Hunan province, caused flash floods in the northeast and railway disruptions elsewhere. Damon Pang reports:
France rail recovers from arson attack Listen
France's high speed rail network is expected to be back to normal by Monday, after a co-ordinated attack on the infrastructure that occurred before the Olympics opening ceremony. It is estimated 800,000 people have been affected. RTHK's UK correspondent Gavin Grey told Samantha Butler that authorities still do not know who was responsible for the attack:
Boxing emboldens displaced residents in Gaza Listen
A small number of Palestinians are taking part in the Olympics, despite the ongoing war. Apart from the Refugee Team, the Palestinian squad will be the only one at the Paris 2024 with the majority of its athletes living outside their home country. Training in Palestine has become almost impossible following the war between Hamas and Israel. But for some displaced residents in Gaza, boxing has given them hope and motivation in life. Scam farms proliferate in Southeast Asia Listen
