Biles tumbles out of balance beam finals Listen
Hong Kong, China are out of the women's team table tennis competition, with the SAR women's team losing to Sweden in the last-16. Meanwhile, Olympic gymnastics events wrapped up on Day 10 with China winning another gold. But Simone Biles' bid to add more Olympic titles to her collection did not go according to plan. The American superstar faltered on the balance beam ended with silver in the individual floor event. Hailey Yip and Kelly Yu have the latest on the Games from Paris:
China aims for five diving golds Listen
Chinese divers Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi will look to add to the country's dominance in diving, as they compete for a medal in women's 10 metres platform on Day 11 of the Paris Olympics. Hailey Yip reports from the French capital:

Ahead of the Olympics, the thought of sleeping in a cardboard bed probably gave many athletes sleepless nights. But now that the Games are halfway through, with competitors settled into the Olympic Village, how are they finding the eco-friendly sleeping arrangements? Hailey Yip reports from Paris:
Monday marks HK's hottest day so far in 2024 Listen
Hong Kong sweated it out on Monday on the city's hottest day so far this year, with the mercury reaching 35 degrees Celsius in most areas and 38.9 degrees in Sheung Shui. Scientific Officer Sin Chuen-keung of the Observatory told Georgina Lee that Hong Kong could see above-normal temperatures in the next few months:
Call to review Covid jab scheme amid mild cases Listen
A government adviser on Covid has suggested the cost-effectiveness and coverage of booster vaccinations be assessed in the long-term as infections become milder. The Scientific Committee on Vaccine-Preventable Diseases currently recommends a booster dose every six months for high-risk groups, such as the over-50s and those with underlying health conditions. They can receive the booster free of charge. Committee chairman Professor Lau Yu-lung said there had been a slight increase in Covid cases recently. But he told Wendy Wong this was not a cause for concern:
Minibus operator refunds overcharged passengers Listen
Refunds are being offered to passengers who were overcharged by the operator of four minibus routes in the New Territories. Georgina Lee reports:
Police say scammers used fake notes to buy luxury goods Listen
Police say they smashed a suspected syndicate which allegedly scammed people out of goods worth an estimated HK$2 million. As Wendy Wong reports, officers arrested 119 people during an anti-triad operation:
Nikkei suffers worst crash since 1987 Listen
Investors in the region have been dumping stocks amid fears that the United States could be heading for recession. In Asia, Japan was hit the hardest with the Nikkei plunging over 12 percent in its biggest single-day percentage drop in 37 years. Azam Khan reports:
'HK investors worry about mainland economy' Listen
Other regional markets also took a hit, with shares in South Korea and Taiwan each losing more than 8 percent. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index gave up 1.5 percent to close at 16,698, its lowest in more than three months, while mainland stocks were down between 1.5 and 2 percent. Frank Yung asked Kenny Wen, head of investment strategy at KGI, on what triggered the sell-off across the region:
CLP's interim net profit rises 18 percent Listen
Power supplier CLP Holdings has announced a half-year profit of HK$5.95 billion, up 18 percent from the first six months of last year. As Elvis Yu reports, the power supplier declared a second interim dividend of 63 cents per share, matching the first interim dividend, and unchanged from a year ago:
Evergrande seeks to recover US$6 billion Listen
China's heavily-indebted real estate giant, Evergrande, is seeking to recover about US$6 billion in dividends and remuneration from seven people or entities, including its founder. It issued a statement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Monday. Todd Harding reports:
Bangladesh PM steps down; flees the country Listen
The prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has resigned and fled to India after weeks of deadly unrest, ending 15 years in power. She left by military helicopter, shortly before thousands of protesters stormed her official residence in Dhaka, lining the rooftops and tearing down a statue of her father. RTHK's South Asia correspondent Murali Kushnan told Brigitte Pu that normalcy had returned for now:
UK's Starmer vows speedy punishment to quell riots Listen
The British government has announced that special measures will help courts to speed up prosecutions in connection with continuing anti-immigrant violence. More than 370 arrests have been made after unrest in towns and cities, including attacks on mosques and hotels housing asylum seekers. RTHK's UK correspondent Gavin Grey told Janice Wong that there were calls to recall parliament from summer recess to address the violence:
