HK spared major damage from Super Typhoon Yagi Listen
Hong Kong has emerged relatively unscathed after Super Typhoon Yagi brought the first number eight storm signal this year. As Hailey Yip reports, the super typhoon brought gale force winds and heavy rain but appeared to have done little damage.
HK calm and peaceful because Yagi kept its distance: expert Listen
A storm expert says Hong Kong didn't face anything near the full wrath of Yagi mainly because it stayed a considerable distance from the territory. Former assistant director at the Hong Kong Observatory Leung Wing-mo -- now a spokesman for the Meteorlogical Society -- told Ben Tse that the city remained 'calm and peaceful' even though Yagi was a full-fledged super typhoon.
Hainan on emergency footing for Yagi Listen
After Yagi passes south of Hong Kong, the storm is forecast to head towards Hainan Island, where authorities have suspended school and public transport. Brigitte Pu reports.
Boccia stars golden again for Hong Kong at Paralympics Listen
Boccia stars Ho Yuen-kei and Tse Tak-wah have secured the third gold for Team Hong Kong, China at the Paris Paralympics. They took the top prize by beating a pair from South Korea. China pledges US$50billion financing, 1m jobs for Africa Listen
President Xi Jinping says China will offer more than US$50 billion in financing for Africa over the next three years. He also promised to help create at least a million jobs on the continent. In a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, he also proposed further elevating ties between the two sides. Tony Sabine reports:
HK 'first choice' for mainland firms seeking sustainable investment Listen
A new report has found that almost all mainland-based businesses polled have made a commitment towards sustainable investment over the next three years, and Hong Kong has emerged as their first choice for sourcing the necessary range of related professional services. The findings come as part of joint research by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. They surveyed more than 280 firms on their medium-term sustainability objectives. The Council's research director, Irina Fan spoke to Samantha Butler about the survey findings.

Police have received nearly 12,000 job applications in the last financial year, a 46 percent jump from the previous 12 months. Officers in charge of recruitment attributed the upward trend to an aggressive campaign to attract talent. Raymond Yeung reports.

The chief executive of the Hong Kong, China Lacrosse Association, Raymond Fong, says the Women's Under-20 World Championship hosted by the SAR last month has helped to increase the appeal of the sport locally. Trump wants Musk to head government efficiency commission Listen
Republican candidate, Donald Trump, says he'll establish a government efficiency commission headed by billionaire supporter Elon Musk, if he wins the November presidential election. It's been reported that the former president has been discussing the idea of a government efficiency commission with aides for weeks. But his speech to the New York Economic Club on Thursday was the first time he'd publicly endorsed the idea. Jamie Clarke reports.
Starliner due for return to earth minus its astronauts Listen
Boeing's Starliner spacecraft is set to return home on Friday with no astronauts on board. Nasa confirmed its plans at a briefing, saying conditions at the landing site in New Mexico appear promising. Starliner was supposed to come home with two astronauts on board, who've been at the International Space Station since June. Jamie Clarke reports.

Rare orange lobster freed from New York shop Listen
An ultra rare, 1-in-30-million, orange lobster has been rescued and returned to the sea by animal advocacy group - after being spotted in a supermarket. Workers at the shop say they found the orange lobster among the standard brown lobsters in a recent shipment. Vanessa Cheng reports:
