There was an auspicious start for the multi-billion-dollar Kai Tak Sports Park after a much-anticipated football league match went ahead without issues. A housing concern group says some subdivided flats tenants fear becoming homeless when the government takes steps to eradicate poor quality shoebox flats. In his Policy Address, the Chief Executive John Lee said the flats would have to be registered as Basic Housing Units with a floor area of no less than 86 square feet and a window and toilet. An expert says last week's Brics summit shows the collective voice of the so-called Global South can no longer be ignored by the west. The Brics alliance grew by four members to nine this year and encompass more than 40 percent of the world's population and 35 percent of global GDP. President Xi Jinping said at the summit in the Russian city of Kazan that the "common march of the Global South towards modernity is a major event in world history." Oriol Caudevilla, Board Director at the Global Impact FinTech Forum, told Azam Khan that one example from the cooperation was the multiple alternative cross-border payments which were pushing towards "a de-dollarised" world:

In the United States, as Kamala Harris and Donald Trump make their closing arguments in the country’s presidential election, they are both reaching for some star power to help drag them over the finishing line. Vice President Kamala Harris is now being supported on the campaign trail by Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and the rapper Eminem. Donald Trump is counting on Kid Rock and country singer Lee Greenwood to try and help secure his return to the Oval Office. RTHK's Simon Marks reports from Washington:
Egypt proposes two-day ceasefire in Gaza  Listenfacebook
The president of Egypt has announced that his country has proposed a two-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. He says the proposal would see the release of four hostages held in Gaza, while some Palestinian prisoners will be freed and humanitarian aid will be delivered. Egypt, along with Qatar and the United States, has been a key mediator in ceasefire negotiations. But this is the first time Egypt’s president has publicly proposed such a plan. Jamie Clarke reports:

Wall Street stocks are entering one of the busiest weeks of the year near record highs, following a late-week tech rally that pushed the Nasdaq Composite just shy of a new record high. AI-darling Nvidia briefly dethroned Apple as the world's most valuable company. This week, five of the 'Magnificent Seven' megacap US tech giants release company earnings, and US nonfarm payrolls for October will be released on Friday. Meanwhile, an ongoing strike by 33,000 Boeing workers continues, exposing the workers’ anger over lost pensions. RTHK's US economics correspondent, Barry Wood, told Janice Wong that the situation was a mess for Boeing:
Billionaires fight for supremacy in India's satellite market  Listenfacebook
The race between two of the world’s richest men is intensifying as they prepare to face off in India’s satellite broadband market. Elon Musk's Starlink is already a global player, providing satellite internet across the world. But India's richest man and owner of telecom giant Jio, Mukesh Ambani, also wants a slice of the booming satellite broadband pie. The Indian government recently announced that satellite spectrum for broadband would be allocated administratively rather than through auction, after Musk criticised the auction model supported by Ambani. RTHK's South Asia correspondent, Murali Krishnan, told Azam Khan that the government's decision to administrate satellite broadband reflects international practice:

In the football Premier League, Liverpool have salvaged a 2-all draw against championship rivals Arsenal while Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag suffered another damaging defeat - this time at the hands of West Ham. RTHK's football correspondent, Tim Bredbury, reports:
LA Dodgers take 2-0 lead in MLB World Series  Listenfacebook
It is only two games in, but baseball's World Series is already shaping up to be a classic. The Los Angeles Dodgers won Game 1 over the New York Yankees 6-3 on Friday when Freddie Freeman hit the first game-ending grand slam in its history. The Dodgers are now up two games to nothing in the series, following a 4-2 victory in Game 2. RTHK's US sports commentator Ray Jovanovich says it was unbelievable how Game 1 ended:
AI artist to have painting sold at auction  Listenfacebook
A painting by a humanoid robot artist is set to make history this month when it is sold by Sotheby's. It will be the first time a humanoid robot has had its work sold by a major auction house. Jamie Clarke reports on the piece and the artist, Ai-Da:
