The battle of two incumbents in the New Territories North East geographic constituency ended up neck and neck, though both Gary Chan and Dominic Lee had no difficulty in winning back their seats.

Lee, of the New People's Party, edged out his election rival with 42,749 votes, ahead of DAB chairman Gary Chan, who received 41,612.

Chan told reporters the election was one of the hardest his party had been through, partly due to slanderous remarks online.

Another reason was that "many candidates across various constituencies were very outstanding in this election, and they have a lot of concrete platforms and suggestions. So to the voters, they have a lot more options," he said.

"And you can also see that other candidates have obtained many more votes."

It is very rare for DAB candidates to secure victory in all the geographical constituencies, Chan said, adding that the party will review its platforms and plan ahead to continue to gain the public's support.
